This story is an abridged version of an issue of iSportConnect’s Sponsorship Index about Premier League teams sponsors which is powered by caytoo.
As we get closer to the start of a new Premier League season, we decided it was time to take a deep dive into the teams sponsors for this year’s competition.
In a similar vein to the likes of the NBA and MLB, three sectors dominate sponsorship among English Premier League teams: Food & Beverage (accounting for 15.6% of sponsors and the three most common individual sponsors – Monster Energy, Cadbury and Heineken), Consumer Services and Financial Services (both 11.1%).
However, over the last 10 months, Financial Services and F&B have seen the biggest decline in the number of sponsorships, falling 31% and 21%, respectively. Financial Services’ decline has been driven by falls in Investment/Trading, Insurance and Payments/Transfers. While F&B’s drop is down to Soft Drinks, Alcohol and Foods.
In contrast, Travel & Tourism and Industrials have seen the biggest increase in the number of Premier League teams sponsors, rising 53% and 100%, respectively. T&T’s growth – a trend identified by caytoo earlier this year – has been driven by Travel Agencies, notably including Destination Sport Travel who sponsor three teams (Burnley, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United).
Industrials growth has been driven by Construction firms (the sub sector with the biggest jump in number of deals) and Materials/Chemicals (both up 300%). The latter includes a wide range of firms from sustainable aluminium packaging firm Ball Corporation (sponsoring Arsenal), to paint brand Graphenston (Fulham) and asphalts company SteelPhalt (Sheffield United).
